
Ralf Sauerbrey studied musicology and Roman languages and literature at the „Freie Universität“ of Berlin. He received his vocal training in Italy with Gianni Raimondi, Pier Miranda Ferraro, Leone Magiera and Carlo Bergonzi. Additionally, he was coached by Sherrill Milnes, Hans Hotter and Kurt Rydl. He has completed his further education in voice physiology and didactics with the Italian phoniatrist Dr Franco Fussi. Ralf Sauerbrey has been awarded numerous prizes, including a first prize in the Taranto International Singing Competition in 2001. He has sung at the Prague State Opera, the Festspielhaus St. Pölten, the opera houses of Reggio Emilia, Forlì, Fidenza, Palma de Mallorca, Schwerin, Dessau and Odessa where his roles have included Don Giovanni, Pizarro, Belcore, Nabucco, Amonasro, Falstaff, Scarpia, Gianni Schicchi, Escamillo and the title role in Krenek's "Dictator". Ralf Sauerbrey can be heard in leading roles in the operas "Der Schmied von Marienburg" by S. Wagner and "Das Unmöglichste von Allem" by A. Urspruch, which have been released on CD by Naxos. His concert repertoire includes works such as the Requiems by Mozart, Verdi and Fauré, the Nelson Mass by Haydn, the Ninth Symphony by Beethoven, the German Requiem by Brahms and the Lyric Symphony by Zemlinsky, as well as numerous songs and song cycles. Since 2012 he is teaching voice training at the Hochschule für Musik „Hanns Eisler“.
