master of music
The Barenboim-Said Akademie offers a two-year Master of Music degree in orchestral instruments, piano and composition. The Akademie’s Master of Music curriculum is unique in offering excellent musicians the opportunity to further refine and improve their artistic abilities while enjoying a wide range of academic coursework, including Humanities.
The Master of Music degree is comprised of 120 ECTS credits, which are grouped into ten pedagogically related modules. Students receive individual instrumental and ensemble instruction from a dedicated, internationally recognized faculty. Alongside this, students undertake academic study in the humanities and musicology to foster intellectual curiosity, critical reflection, and persuasive written and oral expression. The humanities curriculum consists of required advanced courses in philosophy, history, and literature. This program will be supplemented in the future by offerings in transcultural music pedagogy/music mediation and elective seminars in related academic disciplines.
To conclude their studies, Master of Music candidates must complete a final project and a final recital as a formal graduation requirement.
The first study cohort started in Summer Semester 2024.
