biography
Gilbert Nouno is a composer, sound artist, performer and associate researcher at Ircam. He received the Rome Prize Fellowship from the Académie de France à Rome Villa Médicis and the Kyoto Villa Kujoyama Fellowship from Cultures France. His music draws inspiration from visual art and design. As an interdisciplinary artist he explores synesthesia beyond music with emergent art fields. Gilbert Nouno has been a long time collaborator with Jonathan Harvey and Pierre Boulez for his well known pieces with electronics. He worked and performed with artists such as François Xavier Roth, George Benjamin, Olga Neuwirth, Michael Barenboim, jazz saxophonist Steve Coleman, flutist Malik Mezzadri and choreographer Susan Buirge. Gilbert Nouno holds a professorship for composition and sonic arts at the Royal College of Music in London, is invited lecturer in Bern University of the Arts and was lately DAAD guest professor in Detmold Hochschule für Musik and Detmolder Schule für Architektur. He holds Masters and PhD degrees in computer music and artificial intelligence and is carrying out research on responsive design for multimedia performances. He recently wrote "Deejay" for string quartet and electronics - released on CD by the Tana string Quartet, "Iwona, une opérette électronique"and "Street Music" for trio and electronics.
